CPQ for industrial equipment manufacturers is the system that lets sales reps configure complex products correctly, price them accurately, and quote them quickly, without escalating every decision to engineering.
This blog covers what changed for two of our clients from the industrial equipment sector post CPQ implementation.
Schmierer & Cie GmbH manufactures industrial pressure gauges from Germany. Kentmaster builds meat processing equipment from California, shipping to slaughterhouses worldwide. Different products. Different continents. Different regulatory environments.
Their sales reps, before CPQ, had the same problem. Each spent more time validating configurations than selling. Each lost deals to faster competitors. Each absorbed the cost of mistakes that a system should have prevented.
After implementing Odoo CPQ, both companies reshaped what daily sales work actually looks like.
CPQ Implementation for Industrial Equipment Manufacturers: Real User Stories & Results
At Schmierer: how CPQ transformed pressure gauge sales
A Schmierer sales rep fields RFQs from process plants, oil and gas operators, and OEM equipment builders. A typical request: 30 to 50 gauges across multiple plant sections, each with different fluid media, different connection types, different material grades.
Before CPQ.
Configuring 40 gauges manually meant cross-referencing a chemical compatibility table for each one. Six attributes per gauge. Hundreds of selections per quote. By the time pricing was ready, errors had crept in. Materials that would react with the customer’s media. Pricing inconsistencies across line items.
After CPQ.
The rep opens the configurator. Each plant section becomes a configuration profile. The system blocks incompatible material and media combinations at the point of selection. Pricing updates in real time.
Work that used to consume the rep’s full day now leaves the desk in a fraction of the time, validated end to end.

At Kentmaster: how CPQ transformed carcass cutting machinery sales
A Kentmaster sales rep configures carcass splitting saws, breaking saws, and reciprocating saws for slaughterhouses across North America, Australia, and Europe.
Each machine has its own constraints: blade type, drive system, motor power, frame material, hygiene specification. A wrong combination is not just a costly error. It is a HACCP compliance failure and a safety risk on the kill floor.
Before CPQ.
The rep switched between multiple systems to configure a machine, calculated pricing manually, requested a BOM separately, and sent a quote that production sometimes could not actually build. Sales commitments and production reality drifted apart, with the gap absorbed downstream in rework and missed delivery dates.
After CPQ.
The same rep configures the machine inside Odoo. Compatibility rules block unsafe blade-and-drive pairings at the point of selection. Pricing is automated and consistent across regions. The confirmed quote generates the Manufacturing Order and Bill of Materials directly, with no rekeying. Sales and production work from the same configuration. The risk that used to sit in the handoff is gone.
What CPQ for industrial equipment manufacturers actually changes?
Different industries. Different technical complexity. Different regulatory environments. The shape of the transformation is identical.
In both cases, the rep stopped doing engineering work. Rules that used to live in someone’s memory now live in the configurator. The rep’s time shifted from validation to selling, and sales cycles tightened by as much as 25%, in line with the broader benchmark Aktiv has measured across industrial equipment CPQ implementations.
In both cases, the quote, the BOM, and the manufacturing order became one connected document. The handoff between sales and production stopped being a coordination cost.
In both cases, CPQ stayed inside the ERP rather than running as a separate enterprise platform alongside it. The result was a single data layer for sales, manufacturing, inventory, and finance, with no integration debt to maintain.
