When it comes to configuring complex products, clarity and efficiency are everything.
Sales reps and customers would want to operate a CPQ system screen without being overwhelmed by irrelevant options. That’s why we’ve introduced a small functionality within our CPQ app, to manage multiple attribute values, making the entire process smoother, faster, and far more user-friendly.
The Challenge with Unstructured Attribute Values in Your Product Configurator
In a typical CPQ software, product variants often come with a lengthy list of attribute values, including colors, sizes, finishes, materials, and performance levels, among other options.
- Without proper structuring, the CPQ screen can quickly become cluttered.
- Users may end up scrolling through unnecessary options, leading to confusion and wasted time.
- Misconfigurations may occur, where irrelevant attributes are accidentally selected.
This is where category-based organization comes in to simplify product configuration.
The Solution: Organizing Attribute Values by Category for Seamless Product Configuration
With this new enhancement, categories act as containers for grouping attribute values. Here’s how it works step by step:
1. Add Category to Product Variants
While defining a product variant, you can now assign it to a category.
- For example: “Fabric Types,” “Engine Options,” or “Color Variants.”
- A single category can be associated with multiple products, ensuring consistency and reusability.
2. Category Selection in CPQ Component Configuration
When configuring a CPQ component, the system introduces a Category column.
- Users simply select the relevant category for that component.
- Once chosen, only the attribute values tied to that category appear in the CPQ screen.
3. Smarter CPQ Screen
Now, the CPQ interface displays only the values that matter to the selected product and its category.
- No clutter.
- No irrelevant choices.
- Just seamless, guided configuration.
Imagine you’re configuring a sofa in a Furniture CPQ setup:
- Categories like “Fabric Type,” “Wood Finish,” “Leg Style,” and “Size Options” organize the variants.
- If you select the “Fabric Type” category, the CPQ screen shows only fabric-related values (cotton, leather, velvet).
- Similarly, picking the “Wood Finish” category will show relevant finishes only.
This eliminates the mess of seeing all possible variants at once and makes product configuration logical, streamlined, and error-free.
